Kim Graves founded Carleton Woodworking in 1993. He designs and builds custom fine furniture and cabinetry to clients' specifications.
Kim is recognized as an authority on the technical and business aspects of woodworking. With freelance writer Masha Zager, Kim has authored many articles for Fine Woodworking and WoodShop News, and contributed a chapter to Tools: A Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia. He also wrote a woodworking project book, Dining Tables, published by The Taunton Press in 2002. For a complete list of publications, see the publications page.
Kim also directs the Carleton Woodworking School in Brooklyn, NY, which offers group and individual instruction in woodworking.
Before founding Carleton Woodworking, Kim was a computer consultant for several large corporations and government agencies. As an undergraduate, at Bard College, he studied physics, painting and dance. He got his BA in 1980 and then did graduate work in philosophy. Today, his spare time is spend rock climbing and doing yoga.
